Person Who Reached For Ariana Grande during Red Carpet Event Barred from Singapore
An Australian man that leaped across a fence and touched celebrity Ariana Grande has been deported and prohibited from Singapore.
The individual, 26, was sentenced to more than a week in jail for causing a public disturbance and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority informed news outlets.
He forced his way through camera crews and rushed toward the celebrity, who was present at the Asian debut for Wicked: For Good on November 13. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo wrestled him away from Grande.
The individual has a record of causing disturbances at events and star-studded occasions, including jumping on stage at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in June this year.
The occurrence provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with many saying he of re-traumatising Grande.
The singer has mentioned dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a explosive incident at her show in the English city in May 2017 resulted in the deaths of 22 individuals and hurt numerous attendees.
During Wen's trial, the judge was informed he had made efforts to breach on the red carpet event multiple times, according to Singaporean media.
He then made a second attempt to breach security. Event security prevented him and pinned him down.
Wen later posted recordings thanking Grande for letting him on the carpet and said he was "free."
Police arrested him the subsequent day and brought charges against him with public nuisance, to which the man admitted guilt.
The District Judge the magistrate was cited by media reports as stating that the man sought attention, commenting that he was incorrect to believe he would not experience repercussions.
Grande has not commented on the situation.
Cynthia Erivo discussed the incident to a media outlet, remarking that she "simply desired to verify my friend was secure."
"I think he didn't mean us harm, but you never know with those things, and I wanted to ensure that she was OK. That was my first instinct," she stated.
