Outrage as Popular South African DJ Killed in the Heart of Johannesburg.

Warrick Stock was gunned down by a man with dreadlocks in the middle of the day, police say.

A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country struggling with rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old media personality was confronted by three individuals, one of whom shot at him before escaping on foot.

The motive of the shooting has not been established and no one has been arrested are in custody, police said.

How It Happened

Law enforcement revealed that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a building close to the Carlton Centre.

He had spent several hours at the property managing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by squatters, it was reported.

"Authorities believe the deceased was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities said.

Security camera video reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocked hair and wearing what resembled a protective services outfit shooting on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ tried to run away after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.

Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and it was not a robbery during the incident.

Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were discovered at the crime scene.

Call for Public Assistance

Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have have information to contact them.

"Evidence suggests they covered significant ground after the shooting, and officers have been following their trail to find their whereabouts," added an official.

Outpouring of Grief

His family member, a close relative, stated the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.

"I am devastated. I cannot express the pain," she stated.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about subjects not many people were willing to discuss. This is a profound tragedy."

She urged the citizens to avoid sharing disturbing footage from the incident, explaining this was an incredibly difficult time, especially for Stock's children.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that premiered on a South African TV network.

Apart from his media career, Stock was involved in various business ventures, including protective services, offering elite guarding services and securing high-profile events across South Africa.

He was also said to be engaged in property management and participated in property reclaimations.

His murder has caused national trauma and led to an wave of remembrances from his followers, the authorities and political parties.

A cabinet official remarked he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's murder.

"He spoke his truth without fear or favour. He even criticized me and my decisions as a public official. He was a shining model of who we must aspire to be," was his tribute.

A political leader stated the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a tragedy for all South Africans".

A media executive expressed that "Stock was more than just a face of a reality series. He was a talented storyteller, a passionate music lover and a generous spirit who brought happiness and vitality to every performance. His dedication to creativity left an lasting impression."

In a release, the broadcaster he worked for said Stock was known for his presence, approachability and intelligent commentary, adding that his memory "will be remembered".
