Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any impact is unclear and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Additional Developments

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with notable success and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted wreckage landed in a populated district in the capital, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
